    Local roundup: Lewis, Johnson lead Waterford to victory in baseball

    Plainfeld — Connor Lewis allowed one hit over six innings as Waterford beat Plainfield 12-0 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division baseball game on Thursday.

    Kevin Johnson was 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI, Will Sherman doubled and scored three runs and Lewis (1-1) doubled and drove in three runs for the Lancers (4-1, 2-1).

    In other games: 

    • Josh Vincent came close to throwing a no-hitter, allowing a two-out, two-strike RBI single in the bottom of the seventh in New London's 2-1 loss to Woodstock. Vincent struck out 10 and issued his only walk in the last inning. The Whalers (2-5), who managed just three singles, took a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning before giving up an unearned run.

    • Defending CIAC Class S champion Portland beat Old Lyme, 3-1, in the Shoreline Conference. Matt Przybysz doubled and scored for Old Lyme (6-2) and Callum Sawden had two hits, including a double.

    • Providence Country Day scored eight runs on eight hits in an eight-run second inning and went on to beat Williams School 13-1 in the SENE. Alden Schuman had two hits and drove in a run for Williams (2-3, 1-2).

    • St. Bernard scored two runs in the top of the first inning and went on to beat Tourtellotte 2-0 in the ECC Small Division. Remy Bonser pitched a five-hitter for the win. Aaron Michaud doubled and scored for the Saints (3-4, 2-1).   

    Boys' golf

    • Ben Reed shot a low-round 43 as Montville beat Tourtellotte, 6-1, to remain unbeaten in the ECC Small. Chris Bouchard shot a 46 and Cory Meigs a 49 for Montville (4-1-1, 4-0).

    • Bacon won the top two matches, but Waterford rallied for a 5-2 win in an ECC Medium Division match. Brett Collins, Stephen Lavoie and Glen Fabor won for Waterford (2-1, 1-1), which won the medal point 172-180.

    • Sam Ognisty fired a 1-over par 36 to lead Stonington past Plainfield, 7-0, in an ECC Medium match at Foster Country Club. Jack Ognisty shot a 40 for the Bears (2-0, 2-0) and Jack Glenn had a 42.

    • Ellis Tech's Nate Ritacco shot a 43 to earn medalist honors, leading his team to a 6.5-.5 win over Norwich Tech at Harrisville Golf Course in a Constitution State Conference match. Norwich Tech's Steve LaGram halved his match at the No. 5 spot. The Warriors fell to 0-2 overall.

    • East Lyme beat NFA 6-1 in an ECC Large Division match. Killingly, behind medalist John Aitken (37) beat East Lyme 7-0 and NFA 6-1. Ryan Tobin (41) and Jake Row (44) had the top scores for East Lyme (3-1-1, 2-0) and Noah Straub (41) and Jack Sullivan (42) had the top scores for NFA (1-4, 1-1).

    •Old Lyme's Graham Aird was the medalist at 41 as the Wildcats beat East Hampton 183-252 in a Shoreline Conference match. Matt McCarthy, Max Castonguay and Mason Swaney each had 46s for Old Lyme (2-0, 1-0).

    Boys' tennis

    • Avery Oefinger won his No. 1 singles match in three sets in Stonington's 7-0 shutout of Ledyard. Alan Carroll, Mitchell Edwards and Tristan Blair also posted singles wins for the Bears (2-1). The Colonels fell to 0-3.

    • Fitch beat New London/Wheeler 7-0. Geoff Cote, Williams Baldwin, Chase Brown and Kevin Ryan won singles matches for the Falcons (2-0). 

    Girls' tennis

    • Hannah Fabianski, Emily Gardiner, Taylor Startz and Gina Feliciano all won in two games as Stonington downed Ledyard, 7-0. The doubles teams of Claire Morehouse and Mallory McArdle, Morgan Parrilla and Jen Carroll, and McKenzie Sadler and Charlotte Johnstone all won for the Bears (3-0).

    • Fitch swept singles play en route to a 5-2 win over New London. Diana Francis, Laura Krick, Kailey Sullivan and Jessica Cote won their matches for Fitch (2-1) along with the doubles team of Nina Lupo and Jillian Leger. New London (1-2) got wins from the teams of Katelyn Morales-Blamely Cepeda and Jalyn Scruggs-Sandrine Etienne.

    • Norwich Tech improved to 3-1 win a 7-0 win over Hartford Capital in a CSC match. Olivia Kenyon, Hannah Holloway, Lauren Viele, Lauren Fiasconaro and Chanelle Taylor won singles matches for the Warriors.

    • Waterford swept singles play en route to a 5-2 win over Killingly in the ECC Medium Division. Lauren Rahr, Katie Lewis, Jessie Hudson and Francisca Secor won singles matches for the Lancers (2-1, 1-1).

    H.S. girls' golf

    • Roxanne Garceau of Woodstock won a six-team tournament at Elmridge Golf Course featuring ECC teams, shooting a 50. Hannah Slocum of NFA and Sydney Tabor of Waterford were tied for fourth with 54s.
