    High school lacrosse: Old Lyme girls defeat Waterford 11-6

    Old Lyme — Sydney Cowell had four goals and one assist as Old Lyme High School rode a hot start to an 11-6 nonleague girls' lacrosse victory over Waterford on Saturday morning.

    The Wildcats led 7-1 at halftime.

    Maggie Berger added three goals and two assists for Old Lyme while Victoria Sims and Sophia Romeo each had two goals and one assists.

    The Lancers (5-2) were led by Mary Grace Wyatt with two goals while Riley Dimmock, Kylie Sheahan, Ava Guthrie and Megan Sturm each added a goal.

    In other games:

    • Meg Corcoran had two goals and seven assists as Simsbury pulled way in the second half for a 12-8 nonleague victory over East Lyme. Simsbury (4-2) led 7-6 at the half before outscoring the Vikings 5-2 in the second half. Belle Kenny scored three goals for East Lyme (6-1) while Vanessa Vurno added one goal and two assists and goalie Alex Rose made 12 saves.

    • Hudson Roarke had three goals and one assist as Old Saybrook defeated Stonington 7-4 in a nonleague match. Margot Calmar had one goal and one assist for the Bears (4-2) while Hannah Jones, Daisy Humsey and Isabella Natale each scored a goal.

    • Danielle Hollister scored four goals as Somers edged Ledyard 12-11 in a nonleague match. Ellie Phetteplace had four goals and two assists to pace the Colonels (4-2) while Maddie Tilton added three goals, Liz Austin two goals and one assist and Brooke Scahill two goals. Goalie Gretchen Montgomery added 13 saves for Ledyard. Somers is 5-1.

    Boys

    • Jacob Fenton had nine goals and three assists while Henry Hunt added eight goals and two assists to lead Old Lyme past Waterford 22-11 in a nonleague match. Ian Humphreys and Ryan Powers added two goals apiece for the Wildcats (2-2) while Michael Beltran led the Lancers (4-3) with five goals and three assists.
