    H.S. roundup: Grills sets scoring record for Stonington boys' lacrosse

    Stonington — Stonington High School's Tyler Grills set the program's all-time record for goals Saturday night in the Bears' 19-8 loss to Hand.

    Grills had three goals and one assist, giving him 27 goals for the season and 143 for his career, breaking the mark of 141 set by 2006 graduate Paul Mariani. Grills, a senior attack, also holds Stonington's single-season record with 62 goals, set last year.

    Jack Hall added two goals and an assist for the Bears (6-4) and Colton Robinson and David Bibeau each had a goal and an assist.

    In other games:

    • Kyle Marsh had three goals and an assist to help Montville defeat St. Bernard 10-4 in the ECC Small Division. Mike Lopez added two goals and three assists for the Indians (2-5, 1-3) while Pat Caron had two goals and one assist. Jack Feeler had two goals and two assists for the Saints (0-8, 0-4).

    • Old Lyme lost to Bunnell 16-13. Jacob Fenton had six goals and an assist and Henry Hunt had three goals and four assists for Old Lyme (4-3).

    • Logan Bowdish scored four goals and Michael Beltran and Billy Barrs had three each as Waterford beat Valley Regional 11-10. Tony Vocalina also scored, Taylor Huta made 10 saves, Beltran had four assists and Bowdish had two assists for Waterford (6-4).

    Girls' lacrosse

    • Steph deLaforcade scored three goals and Alex Rose made 19 saves as East Lyme beat Guilford 12-4. Gabby Fiengo, Belle Kenney and Vanessa Vurno scored two goals each ans Sara Shukis had a goal and an assist for East Lyme (7-2).

    Boys' track

    • Montville's Nik Strickland won the 300-meter hurdles at the Marty Roberts Invitational at Coginchaug in 44.19 seconds, leading the Indians to a fourth-place team finish with 58 points. Old Saybrook was the team champion with 141.

    Also for Montville, Jordane Virgo was second in the 110 hurdles (16.59) and long jump (19 feet, 10.75 inches), Van Heller third in the 800 (2:10.26), Tyler Quidgeon third in the javelin (147-6) and Dawson Milbauer third in the triple jump (39-5.25).

    St. Bernard's James Rose was second in the 800 (2:09.03). The Saints finished 11th with 12 points.

    • Ledyard's Bryce Hedman won the 3,200 at the Middletown Invitational in 9:44.56 and teammate Steven Boyd was third in the pole vault (12-0). Also, Fitch's 4x800 relay team of Daelon Morgan, Matt Kerst, Conor O'Donnell and Tom Readett was fourth in 8:27.27 and John Floyd was sixth in the high jump (6-0).

    Girls' track

    • St. Bernard's Erica Massad was first in the triple jump at the Marty Roberts Invitational at Coginchaug. Old Saybrook won the event with 87.5 points, with Montville third (74) and St. Bernard eighth (23).

    For Montville, Nadia Dallas was second in the 200 meters (27.84), Kiah Strickland second in the javelin (100-5) and Ying Zi Huang second in the triple jump (33-7.75), while the Indians' 4x400 relay team of Caitlin Turney, Taylor LaVallie, Abigail Baukus and Hanna Marchini was second in 4:23.89.

    Also, Montville's Madeline Campbell was third in the long jump (16-1.25) and triple jump (32-9.5) and Molly Podeszwa was third in the shot put (30-11) and discus (82-2).

    • Fitch's Sydnee Spruill was second in the high jump at the Middletown Invitational with a leap of 5-2. Teammate Alicia Moroyoqui was sixth in the 800 in 2:27.83. For Ledyard, Megan Brawner was fourth in the 1,600 in 5:22.67.

    Softball

    • Jenn Paride struck out 13 and allowed just two hits for Wheeler in a 7-1 victory over Tourtellotte in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Small Division. Raven Houck was 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored and Sam Muller's three-run home run over the center field fence gave the Lions a 5-1 lead in the fifth. Micaela Bergel added two hits for Wheeler (8-1, 3-0).

    Baseball

    • Wheeler picked up its first win of the season, beating Tourtellotte 13-7 in an ECC Small Division game. Kevin Knowles, Mike Dellaporta, Dylan Wilkinson, Caleb Melinosky and Alex Haines had two hits each for Wheeler (1-9, 1-3).

    • Jacob Parizo had four hits as Williams School to a 20-7 win over St. Thomas More in an SENE game. Dan Doherty pitched four innings for the win and had a double, JJ Johnson hit a three-run triple, Alden Schuman singled, doubled twice, drove in two runs and scored three and Ed Kaftan had two doubles and three RBI for Williams (3-6, 2-3). Tom Kenney was 3-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer and Nate Rentsch also homered for T-More (0-6, 0-5).

    • Greg Cooper had three hits and Dan Mewha two hits and two runs scored for Fitch in a 6-5 loss to North Kingstown, R.I. Ian Cekala struck out six and allowed just three hits and two earned runs in the loss for the Falcons (6-5).

    Boys' tennis

    • Old Lyme accepted four singles wins by forfeit en route to a 5-2 win over Coginchaug in the Shoreline Conference. Jason Feng was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 5 singles for the Wildcats, which dropped both doubles matches.
