    H.S. track roundup: Old Lyme's Buttrick sets long jump record as Wildcats win a pair

    Durham — Brian Buttrick set the Old Lyme High School record in the long jump Tuesday at 21 feet, 1 inch, leading the Wildcats boys' track and field team to wins over Westbrook (74-66) and Portland (91-37) in the Shoreline Conference.

    Old Lyme lost to Coginchaug 93-47.

    Buttrick was first in the long jump and the high jump (5-8). The previous long jump record was set in 1972.

    Will DeMott was first in the 400 meters in 52.9 seconds and Even Deng was second in the 100.

    In other meets:

    • Jelani Lucas won the 100 (10.9), long jump (21-7), triple jump (42-6) and high jump (5-6) in New London’s 97-44 victory over Montville in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division. Andrew Sousa won the 800, 1,600 and ran a leg of the winning 4x400 relay team for New London (1-2, 1-2) and Juan Hernandez (400), Kevin Shaw (200) and Kobe Haley (discus) also won individual events. Tyler Quidgeon took first in the 110 hurdles, the shot put and the discus for Montville (0-3, 0-3).

    • Brandon Soto, Ford Samedy and Jawaun Johnson set personal bests in winning their events as Norwich Free Academy defeated Woodstock Academy 121-28 in the ECC Large Division. Soto took the javelin with a throw of 129-5, while Samedy threw the discus 109-8 and Johnson ran the 100 in 10.6 seconds. Johnson also won the 200 and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay, while Marcus Gates took the triple jump, high jump and joined the 4x100 team for the Wildcats (4-1, 2-1). Jordan Crawford (110 hurdles), Brandon Mehlinger (1,600), Tyler Sholes (400), Normand Manning (pole vault) and J’Von Brown (shot put) added individual victories for NFA.

    • Anthony Jordan won three individual events and was part of the winning 4x100 relay team as Waterford rolled to a 103-47 victory over Killingly in the ECC Medium Division. Jordan won the 100 (11.8), 200 (23.3) and high jump (5-8) for the Lancers (2-1, 2-1), while Devin Craig captured the 100 hurdles (16.8) and 300 hurdles (47.1) and Brian Roscover won the 800 (2:07.9) and 1,600 (4:48.62).

    • Kyle Whalen won the 100 and 200 for Stonington in a tri-meet at Bacon Academy. Stonington beat Windham Tech 111-24, but lost to Bacon 95-55 in the ECC Medium Division. Kieran Thornell won the 3,200 for Stonington (3-3, 2-1).

    Girls

    • Kiah Strickland won the 100 hurdles (15.7) and the javelin (99-0.5) for Montville in a 97-44 victory over New London in the ECC Medium Division. Suzie Fitzgerald (1,600), Naomi Clark (300 hurdles), Nadia Dallas (200), Mel Huang (high jump), Molly Podeszwa (shot put) and Maddy Campbell (discus) also won events for Montville, which remained unbeaten in the division at 3-0, 4-1 overall. New London's Mia Santana won the 100, 400, long jump and triple jump. New London is 0-3, 0-3.

    • Kelsie Hall (pole vault, 4x100 relay), Margaret Lewerk (100, 4x100) and Lindsay Sylvia (1,600, 4x800) each won an individual event and contributed to a relay victory as NFA defeated Woodstock 87-63 in the ECC Large Division. Madison Guertin (400), Sydney Corl (800), Olivia Lane (shot put) and Julia Bettencourt (javelin) also won individual events for NFA (4-1, 2-1).

     • Jordan Chicoski won the long jump (15-2.5) and the triple jump (31-5) as Bacon handed Stonington its first loss in the ECC Medium 80-70. Stonington topped Windham Tech 118-21. Maia Smith won the 1,600 (5:59.8) and 3,200 (12:54.9), Halle Anderson won the 300 hurdles (50.7), Tatyana LaFrance Boyce won the high jump (5-0) and Emma Brown won the pole vault (8-6) for Stonington (3-3, 2-1). Also, Kaeli Novak, Meg Rolfe, Kenna McWilliams and Anderson won the 4x400 (4:16.3) and McWilliams, Rolfe, Novak and LaFrance Boyce won the 4x100 (52.6).

    • Freshman Amanda Marsh was first in the high jump for Old Lyme, which lost to Portland (73-58), Westbrook (108-33) and Coginchaug (101-38). Marsh finished with a leap of 4-8. Sam Lee was first in the 400 in 1:02.1.

    • Isabella Jenne won the shot put and discus for Waterford in an 84-61 loss to Killingly in the ECC Medium Division. Emily Johnson won the 800 for Waterford (0-3, 0-3) and the Lancers also had wins in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. Killingly is 2-3, 1-2.
