Knighted: Southington remains No. 1 in The Day's Top 10 state football poll

There wasn’t much change in The Day of New London Top 10 state coaches’ poll this week.

Southington remained No. 1 and received 11 of 13 first-place votes. No. 2 Darien and No. 3 New Canaan each received a No. 1 vote.

Glastonbury (2-0) moved into the poll at No. 10 after beating Conard on the final play of last Friday’s game, 50-49. Formerly seventh-ranked West Haven fell out of the Top 10 after it was thumped by No. 4 Notre Dame of West Haven last Friday, 40-18.

Ledyard (2-0), Norwich Free Academy (1-0) and Bacon Academy (2-0) were the Eastern Connecticut Conference teams receiving votes. Ledyard plays at Bacon on Saturday in one of the top games of a loaded Week 3.

The week’s top game features No. 9 Newtown (2-0) at No. 8 Brookfield (2-0) on Friday night.
