    H.S. cross country: Morehouse helps the Bears win two

    Waterford — Stonington's Caroline Morehouse was the individual winner and helped lead the Bears to a pair of wins on Tuesday in girls' cross country.

    Morehouse, a freshman, won in a time of 19:49 as the Bears beat Waterford 15-46 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division meet and Woodstock 23-32 in a nonleague meet. Woodstock beat Waterford 15-48.

    Also placing in the top six for Stonington (5-0, 2-0) were Maia Smith (third), Elise Huysman (fifth) and Liz Gray (sixth).

    In other meets:

    • Mady Whittaker was third (20:55) and Susan Fitzgerald fifth (21:42) as Montville beat New London (25-3) and Plainfield (15-50) in an ECC Medium meet. Karishma Chouhan took sixth (21:48) for Montville (3-2, 3-0). Shaneika Fareus was fourth (21:18) and Emma Hurley seventh (23:39) for New London (2-3, 2-1), which beat Plainfield (15-50).

    • Ledyard's Megan Brawner won the race as the Colonels beat St. Bernard 23-32 but lost to Bacon 22-33 in an ECC Large meet. Brawner's winning time was 19:35. St. Bernard's Ellen Arvidson was second and teammate Christina McCaffrey was third. Ledyard is 3-2, 0-2 and St. Bernard is 1-2.

    Boys

    • Andrew Sousa (17:44) finished first and teammates Nate Skrabacz (18:41) and Zack Skrabacz (18:52) placed third and fourth, respectively, as New London beat Montville (33-34) and Plainfield (15-50) in the ECC Medium. Timothy Glavan was ninth (18:48) for New London (2-3, 2-1). Van Heller was runner-up (18:40), Jayden Colon fifth (18:57) and Derek Viets sixth (19:04) for Montville (1-4, 1-2), which beat Plainfield (15-50).

    • Ledyard picked up a pair of victories, beating Bacon 19-38 in an ECC Large meet and St. Bernard 20-37 in a nonleague meet. James Rose of St. Bernard won the race in 17:03. The Saints (2-2) lost to Bacon 24-33. Ledyard (5-0, 2-0) placed three runners in the top five, Jacob Money (second), Christian Kuss (third) and Josh Snow (fifth).

    • Woodstock Academy won the tri-meet, beating Waterford 17-44 and Stonington 19-42. Waterford beat Stonington 24-37 in an ECC Medium Division meet. Zoran Haines of Woodstock won the race in 17:17 and Stonington's Kieran Thornell was second (17:29). Dylan Abate was the top finisher for Waterford (3-2, 2-0), coming in fifth.

    • Grasso Tech took four of the top five spots en route to an 18-45 win over Putnam in a Constitution State Conference meet. Koriath Wiggins won with a time of 20:29 and teammate Sam Gauthier was second in 21:03.

    • Norwich Tech put three runners in the top five and edged Windham Tech 26-31 in a CSC meet. Cody Kersteter led Norwich Tech (2-0, 2-0) with a second-place finish (19:57) and teammates Colby Chaluto (fourth) and Blake Wawrzynowicz (fifth) also cracked the top five.
