Old Lyme girls advance to Class S state soccer final
Middletown — Freshman Mya Johnson scored three goals during a seven-minute span late in the second half to lift fifth-seeded Old Lyme to a 4-0 victory over No. 8 Holy Cross in the semifinals of the CIAC Class S girls' soccer tournament on Monday night at Middletown High School.
The Wildcats (17-2-2) will play No. 18 Notre Dame of Fairfield, a 2-0 winner over No. 15 Bolton, in the state championship game on either Friday or Saturday at a site and time to be announced.
Johnson, assisted by Caleigh O'Neil, broke a scoreless tie with just 14:38 to play for the Shoreline Conference champions, then scored an unassisted goal less than five minutes later. After Maddie Ouellette converted a direct kick by Kyra Teixeria, Johnson scored her third goal with 7:51 to play.
