Kate Prpich spent last spring trying to be a wife, mother, teacher, co-owner of a gym and the softball coach at Fitch High School.

Prpich found the pace too hectic and has decided to step down as the Falcons' coach. She led them to the 2009 CIAC Class L championship.

“It was something I needed to do because my life could no longer accommodate the time it takes to coach,” Prpich said. “The girls are phenomenal, and I have no doubt that they’ll do really, really well this year, but I just wanted them to have a coach that could give them their undivided attention.

“Between working full-time at Waterford, motherhood, and co-owning the CrossFit Inguz gym, it was just becoming too much.”

Fitch won the Eastern Connecticut Conference last season. Its only loss was to East Haven in the Class L final (4-2).

The Falcons won the program’s first title in 2009 as they upset future LSU All-American Rachele Fico and two-time Class L champion Masuk, 1-0, snapping the latter’s 77-game winning streak.

Fitch won Class L again in 2014 under interim coach Arielle Cooper. Prpich took the season off, giving birth that May to son Mason.

“I have every intention of being there and supporting them the whole way,” Prpich said, “just not in the dugout.”
