    H.S. roundup: ECC girls' singles final will be an all-Stonington affair

    Mystic — Stonington's Gabby Dellacono will see a familiar face across the net when she attempts to defend her Eastern Connecticut Conference girls' tennis tournament singles title on Friday.

    Teammate Charlotte Johnstone, the sixth seeded, continued her string of upsets by rallying for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over No. 2 Alaina Moger of Waterford in Thursday's semifinals at the Mystic Indoor Center.

    Dellacono, a sophomore and the top seed, continued her dominant run with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over No. 4 Clara Siegmund of Woodstock Academy in the other semifinal match. Dellacono has not lost a game in three tournament victories.

    Johnstone, a junior, won the last three games of the final set to put away Moger. Johnstone also defeated No. 3 Michaela Abate of St. Bernard, the 2015 ECC singles champion, in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

    Dellacono and Johnstone will play for the title at 3:15 p.m., along with the doubles championship between top-seeded Hannah Middleton-Krancberg and Brielle Fratoni-Jaskiewicz of Stonington and No. 2 Stacey Tasoulas and Catherine Yao of Waterford.

    Both matches are scheduled to be played at Stonington High School, but will return to MIC if there is rain.

    Boys' tennis

    • The ECC singles and doubles championship matches were postponed by rain and will be held Friday at 2 p.m. East Lyme High School, although the matches will move inside to the Old Saybrook Racquet Club if it rains.

    In the singles final, top-seeded Alex Zuczek of St. Bernard will attempt to win his fourth straight singles title when he faces No. 2 Tyler Huhtanen of Woodstock. The doubles final, the No. 1 team of East Lyme's Davon Chen and Eric Gu will play Waterford's No. 2 team of Adam Pinch and David Perez.

    Baseball

    • The ECC and Shoreline Conference tournament championships will be decided on Friday, both starting at 7 p.m. East Lyme, the third seed, will play No. 5 Stonington for the ECC title at Fitch while Old Lyme, the No. 2 seed, meets No. 4 Cromwell in the Shoreline final at the Indian River Complex in Clinton.

    Softball

    • Second-seeded Griswold puts its unbeaten record on the line when it hosts defending champion Fitch in Friday's ECC tournament championship game at 7 p.m. The Wolverines are 22-0 while the Falcons, the No. 5 seed, are fresh off a 5-3 win over top-seeded Norwich Free Academy in the semifinals.

    • The Constitution State Conference champion, featuring second-seeded Norwich Tech, was postponed by rain. The Warriors will play No. 1 Wilcox Tech for the title at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cheney Tech in Manchester.

    Boys' golf

    • Tourtellotte clinched at least a share of the ECC Division III title with a 4-3 win over Wheeler at Stonington Country Club. Wheeler (9-7, 8-2) got wins from Kody Lewis and Matt Worobey and earned a forfeit at No. 5. Tourtellotte (11-8, 8-1) can wrap up the title with a win at Griswold on Tuesday. Tom Kingsbury of Tourtellotte was the medalist with a 2-over-par 38.

    • Waterford lost to Woodstock in an ECC Division II match, 5.5-1.5. Ryan Sadosky won his match and Caroline Petchark halved her match for Waterford (8-8, 1-8). Woodstock's Ryan Black was the medalist with a 1-over-par 36 at Great Neck CC.  

    Track and field

    • Old Lyme’s Danny Cole placed third in the 3,200-meter race (10:05.80), sixth in the 1,600 (4:36.34) and teamed with Corey Knepshield, Danny Reid and Trevor Wells to finish second in the 4x800 relay (8:15.19) during Wednesday’s Shoreline Conference championships at Morgan. Coginchaug (145.5 points) won the boys' team title and Old Lyme was eighth (38). Knepshield added was second in the 800 (2:01.05) and teamed with Casey Blue, Dylan Hettick-Harlow and Reid to finish fourth in the 4x400 (3:39.36). Reid placed fifth in the 1,600 (4:34.89).

    In the girls’ meet, Old Lyme's Faith Caulkins, Chloe Cahill, Julia Smith and Julia Richie took sixth in the 4x400 relay (4:25.54). Old Saybrook easily won the team title with 182.75 and Old Lyme was 12th with seven.
