We get ready to cap the coverage of our fall season for high school sports with the publication of The Day's Fall All-Area teams, beginning Monday. It is our privilege to recognize the best athletes from our coverage area in eight sports.

The all-star teams, including a Player of the Year in each sport, were voted on by our sports staff. Videos of the Players of the Year can be found on theday.com.

The schedule for publication of the teams is as follows: Monday, field hockey; Tuesday, girls' swimming; Wednesday, boys' cross country; Thursday, girls' cross country; Friday, volleyball; Saturday, boys' soccer; Sunday, Dec. 24, girls' soccer; and Monday, Dec., 25, football.

In southeastern Connecticut, we crowned state champions this fall in girls' soccer, with Old Lyme High School earning its third straight Class S title, and boys' cross country, with East Lyme capturing Class MM for its first championship since 1970. We certainly look forward to what the winter season will bring.
