Conn. Bishops' silence a disservice to calling

I am a former Roman Catholic seminarian. Once again legions of Catholics voted for pro-abortion politicians and once again the Connecticut Catholic bishops remain mute.

If I had been ordained, I would have taught from the pulpit on Sunday that a Catholic who votes for a pro-abortion candidate commits mortal sin as a direct accomplice to the murder of unborn children and that the Catholic must go to confession and obtain sacramental absolution before receiving Holy Communion.

Of course, the local bishops would tell me that I should not teach this point of moral theology.

As a result, children continue to be aborted and the academic bishops say nothing. The bishops need to remember that hell exists and that they could go to hell for their sins of omission. There they will meet pro-choice Catholics.

Is state Sen.-elect Edward Kennedy pro-life or pro-abortion? His father was pro-choice.
