Not bothering to vote on Election Day is downright unpatriotic

Every election year I always ask myself the same question, "Why in the land of the free and home of the brave is the election turnout always so pathetically low?"

Generations of brave men and women have risked their lives securing the blessings of liberty for all Americans current and future not the least of which is the right to vote. Yet for many doing their patriotic duty and participating in elections is somehow not deemed important.

I understand that people value their time but voting does not take that long and the act of voting preserves our democracy.

Many say they don't know enough to vote. These people need to get themselves informed. Some say they don't like the choices. Well, we have primaries to select candidates and these people ought to be participating in those, too.

I do understand that there are people who simply can't vote due to circumstances beyond their control, but they are the exception, not the rule.
