Don't blame seals for fish declines

In response to the letter "Allowing seal hunts could boost the striped bass catch," (Nov. 22), if the local striped bass and bluefish populations are down you can bet it has to do with human intervention.

I don't know why the writer quickly dispenses with the credible causes proposed by the Marine Fisheries panel other than it would take some effort on the part of man to correct them. I'm sure it's much easier to go get your gun and blow stuff up. Imagine describing the seals as "healthy beautiful marine animals" and then proposing shooting them. Imagine the nerve of these seals "gorging themselves on their known diet."

Maybe the seals are looking at the writer and thinking the same thing.
