Goshen, Quaker Hill deserve equal fire help

I received a letter regarding the schedule to remove the full-time fire fighters from Quaker Hill and Goshen fire stations as of March 1. I called First Selectman Dan Steward and Director of Fire Services Bruce Miller to see if they are in support and, of course, they are.

These changes are not due to budget cuts; in fact, spending has been increased to provide coverage to the other districts. This would leave all residents and school districts of Quaker Hill and Goshen without a full-time dedicated firefighter to respond to emergencies during daytime hours. Granted, we have great volunteers, my dad was one of the best, but to discontinue the paid man is absurd. The taxpayers in Quaker Hill and Goshen are entitled to the same services as the rest of Waterford.

Let's put politics aside and do the right thing. Please attend one of the informational sessions set for 10 a.m. today at the firehouses in Quaker Hill and Goshen.
