As a New London resident and business owner, I have witnessed major improvements since our change over to an elected mayor form of government. With a balanced budget, replenished general fund, a positive Fitch credit rating, lower crime rate and a future that includes an all magnet school system, Coast Guard Museum, new developments downtown and a very promising proposal for Fort Trumbull, we are at last moving in a positive direction.

In spite of the fiscal negligence and lack of creative thinking of the former City Councils and managers, Mayor Finizio has been able to bring us to a place where there is hope and light.

Many times I have heard people say, "Why can't we be another Newport?" or "Why can't we be more like Mystic?" All along I have felt we need to stop trying to be something we are not. We just need to be a better New London.

I believe Mayor Finizio is indeed working toward exactly that. We are a unique city with many great assets. With the creative, intelligent and passionate approach I have witnessed from our current administration we are indeed on the verge of becoming the best New London we can possibly be.
