    Upset with candidate's anti-union rant

I read with interest the letter from the GOP candidate for mayor of New London, “New London unions have too much power,” (Aug. 24). His disdain for organized labor was more than the usual rhetoric I see spewing from the mouths of the right wing. It should be noted that the right to organize and bargain collectively is the law. The union members in the city of New London have made numerous concessions over the past 20 years in an attempt to help the city. It is true that the Democrats are endorsed by many labor unions. As union members it is our duty to help those who support us and punish those who would bring harm to us. The GOP candidates are supported by the CBIA, the Koch Bros., and other anti-worker organizations.

The Republican candidate's disdain for working folks and support of the fat cats is the main reason he will never be the mayor. Labor unions built this country. They are the reason for the five-day work week and child labor laws. As an advocate for organized labor, I will do all that I can to make sure this candidate never ends up in City Hall.
