Tough enforcement key to I-95 safety

As both a taxpayer and someone who spends many hours on I-95, I have been following the debate regarding the road and its issues with interest. First of all, if anyone seriously thinks tolls are a good idea, then tolls need to be fairly levied and placed on I-91 and I-84 so we all can share the cost and inconvenience, not just the shoreline residents. What is the revenue to cost ratio in setting up another government bureaucracy?

Massachusetts has 4 and 5 lanes heading to Boston and they are frequently parking lots, so wider roads must spread traffic laterally, not really speeding up forwards progress much of the time.

The real answer to accidents and many delays is the enforcement of speed limits, removing the erratic and rude drivers from the road and enforcing existing rules of the road. When driving through the 395 interchange area there aren't 10 percent of the vehicles going even close to the 50 mph limit. The rest of our highways are racetracks as well.

Like many of society’s problems, a large part of the solution lies in enforcing current laws and rules. I doubt anyone will want to pay the billions that new, wider roads will cost.
