Beware of online tax account scam

I went online using a popular tax-filing software progrm to start my tax return; after I had signed out I received an email asking me to update my profile, I clicked on the link and it looked me to be an authentic looking site asking me for my email account user ID and my password.

I scrolled down and it also asked me for my email address and email password. I almost gave the information until I realized the site was a scam, knowing that when you are logged in on your account is the only time you can update your information. They do not need to know your email password nor your profile password; they already have it.

I concluded the site was a scam to get my information illegally for some sort of theft. Never give out that information to any site that asks for it no matter how authentic it seems. I thought I would let others know this is happening now that it is tax time.
