Former state rep is backing Soto

As someone who served as state representative of the 39th District here in New London for 14 years, I know firsthand what the job entails and what skills would make for a great representative. It is because of my experience in Hartford that I strongly support Chris Soto to become our next representative.

It is a difficult job that requires persistence, the ability to compromise and work with colleagues you may not agree with and, most importantly, to know when and how to be a champion for all people. Chris Soto has shown me that he has all of these qualities, where on each measure of success for our elected leaders, Ernest Hewett has been mediocre at best.

From my conversations about this race, it's clear that all of New London feels it's time for new leadership. We have an opportunity to put someone in that seat with the stamina and tenacity to do a wonderful job. New London needs someone who can forge new relationships and has a 21st Century approach to solving community problems.

It’s refreshing to see the energy that Soto has brought to our community and I have no doubt that he will be just as successful as New London's next state representative. Please join me in voting Soto on Aug. 9.
