Hotel gouging article upset Iowans' relative

In response two articles and one column written by Mike DiMauro on Aug. 9, "Who knew Iowa could be so expensive?" Both the newspaper articles were about the Waterford 13-year-olds heading for the World Series in Ottumwa, Iowa. I have family in Ottumwa and I have visited there for over 50 years. I am appalled over the charges that Hampton Inn charged for rooms for the team and their family. They worked hard to win and so many local people made efforts to defray the cost of the trip. I know for a fact that if the powers to be had contacted and complained of the price of the rooms to corporate office they might have received lower rates.

I have written a letter to The Courier, the local newspaper in Ottumwa, and sent them the articles and shared my disappointment. I am so proud of these young people and their families realize the sacrifice everyone makes to make this all happen!
