Groton should do more for its veterans

Being a vet you'd think living in a Navy town would be an amazing thing. Far from the truth, though, in a town that's known for its submarine base. In Groton/New London there's so many vets living on the streets. Instead of wasting money on new roads that don't need it or new stores, why not build a home for vets? There are towns 20 minutes to an hour away that offer housing for vets and offer help but yet nothing in the Navy town itself, a town where we rely on the military being here or else we'd be a ghost town.

Trying to get on the Navy base with a vet I.D. we're pushed away. Why are the vets so neglected and pushed to the side? We are the ones who fought for this country, risked our lives, and made the sacrifice so others wouldn't have to.

We have former schools that could be recycled into apartments for vets. We have empty buildings where stores used to be that could be a clinic for injured vets or an office for vets to get help with finding jobs or a home. But yet we don't. Instead vets are pushed away to have to travel hours or end up on the streets. Why isn't Groton more of a vet town?
