Henowitz will confront climate change threat

Republican candidate for state Senate Paul Formica is a ranking member of the Energy and Technology Committee, yet just last year, when asked whether global warming is real and caused by CO2 emissions, he said, “I don’t know enough about the issue to have an opinion, ”Waterford residents share concerns about state budget cuts with legislators," (March 30, 2015).

His constituents in the 20th District deserve better. We’re a coastal community, vulnerable to rising sea levels, storm surges and hurricanes. Already, Millstone is using increasingly warmer water to cool its reactors, farmers are grappling with drought, and heat-driven smog is affecting people with asthma, COPD and other respiratory conditions.

We need a state senator with the intellectual rigor to understand global warming, and the political courage to tackle its root causes. This Nov. 8, I'll be voting for Formica's Democratic challenger, Ryan Henowitz.
