Former Scout disappointed with jamboree speech

This is in respond to the letter, “Recalling a great man after ‘disgusting’ address,” (Aug. 3). The president's speech to the Boy Scouts was a tasteless, self-motivated, insecure gripe. He spoke mostly of his political winnings, giving little reference towards the Scouts after stating, “Who the hell wants to talk about politics to the Boy Scouts?” Apparently he did.

What is so misleading about it is that it had nothing to do with this generation of Scouts. He made several adult-target statements towards a majority of teenagers who are not old enough to vote. He should have spoken of what scouting represents and great, past, Scouts and their achievement to invigorate the young Scouts at the jamboree.

When I was a Scout we were taught to respect Mother Nature and helped the EPA stocking fish, testing water and soil conditions and other jobs. Trump ignoring the state of the environment is a slap in the face to anyone who is or was a Boy Scout.
