Both Day Staff Writer Julia Bergman and retired editorial writer Greg Stone are to be commended for their coverage regarding the recent passing of Jim Turner, former president of Electric Boat. Julia learned of Jim from others; Greg lived the Jim Turner era. Each gave excellent insights into the man’s character and abilities.

Jim was the finest leader I have ever known. He trusted and empowered people, allowing them to do their jobs without looking over their shoulders, a characteristic too often lost on lesser managers. Jim’s manner was low key and without flash. What he had in abundance was vision.

His leadership brought out the best in all of us who served during his tenure.
