Rotary, Liberty Bank raise $36,700 to feed families
Rotary Clubs in southeastern Connecticut have teamed up with Liberty Bank to raise $36,700 for local families struggling to buy such Thanksgiving staples as turkey, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce.
The Thanksgiving Dinner Drive raised more than $200,000 across the state - a record.
Rotary Clubs in 35 towns teamed up with the 49 Liberty Bank offices to raise $167,620 during the weeks after Columbus Day.
At the end of the drive, the Liberty Bank Foundation added 25 cents for each dollar raised, totaling $41,869.
Rotaries in Colchester, Groton/Ledyard, New London, East Lyme, Norwich, Old Saybrook Stonington and Waterford contributed.
