Mystic Shipyard readies tree for holiday event

The Mystic Shipyard crew led by Jeff Marshall and Mark Sauchuk of MJ Sauchuk have delivered and decorated the Mystic River Park Christmas tree.

This year the tree sets a new record for height at just over 36 feet. It was donated by Mr. and Mrs. George Gauthier of Groton, who had planted the tree many years ago when it was a sapling.

The crew from Mystic Shipyard spent much of the day Tuesday decorating the tree for its official lighting on Saturday, which will kick-off the Holiday Lighted Boat Parade.

Each year Marshall, on behalf of Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce, starts the search for the perfect tree in October.
