Mystic man leads home builders group

Norton Wheeler III, owner of Mystic River Building Co., has been sworn in as president and chairman of the board of the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Connecticut. Wheeler, past president of the Builders Association of Eastern Connecticut, has been recognized as a Certified Graduate Builder, Certified Green Professional and Graduate Master Builder, among other designations. He also has received recognition as Builder of the Year a record five times and has served on the board of the national, state and local Home Builders & Remodelers associations.

"We are finally coming out of the Great Recession of 2006-2014," he said in his remarks as incoming chairman of the Connecticut board. "The American economy is growing again, and consumer confidence is up. However, our success as builders relies on our ability to deliver value."

Last year, Wheeler unveiled the 3,400-square-foot Connecticut Showcase Home in Norwich, demonstrating how to combine energy savings with a safe and healthy environment.

"Building sustainable, energy-efficient homes is the best way to deliver real and lasting value to our customers," Wheeler said.
