Old Lyme man injured in motorcycle crash

Waterford — A 51-year-old Old Lyme man was airlifted to Hartford Hospital on Saturday morning after crashing his Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Interstate 395 near the Exit 2 off-ramp, according to state police.

The northbound lanes of the highway were closed for more than an hour following the 9:14 a.m. incident.

Joseph V. Kakos of 108 Boston Post Road lost control of his motorcycle as he drove in the left lane of the highway near the Exit 2 off-ramp, according to an incident report. He veered onto the grass median, striking the metal beam guardrail. He then re-entered the left lane of the highway, traveling about 1.5 miles before again striking the media guard rail and coming to rest partially in the left lane, the report said.

He appeared to have suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital by Life Star.

State police said their investigation is continuing.
