Norwich — Property data collectors for Vision Government Solutions Inc., the firm hired by the city to conduct the state-mandated revaluation of property values, started work this week to determine property values for the Oct. 2018 grand list of taxable property.

The purpose of the revaluation is not to raise taxes, city Assessor Donna Ralston said, but to create an equitable distribution of the tax burden.

Data collectors will start in the northern section of the city, visiting all buildings to conduct interior inspections and to verify exterior measurements. Data collectors will carry a letter of identification from the assessor’s office, a photo ID badge and have their cars registered with the Norwich Police Department.

All property owners and tenants are requested to cooperate with data collectors to ensure that accurate information is used in the revaluation process.

The assessor's office will provide updates as the revaluation progresses through the city.
