    Bike and BBQ to benefit East Lyme historic houses, open space to be held Sunday

    East Lyme — The East Lyme Bike and Barbeque event, a fundraiser for the town's historic houses and open spaces, will be held Sunday, Oct. 1. The bicycling event will benefit the Smith-Harris House, the Samuel Smith House and the Thomas Lee House, as well as the East Lyme Land Conservation Trust.

    The event will feature six bicycle route options: The Horrible Hundred (100 miles); The Miserable Metric (62 miles); The Mild Metric (62 miles); The 38 Special (38 miles); The Easy 26 (26 miles); and The Historical House Tour (9 Miles). All routes begin and end at the Smith Harris House, 33 Society Road. The Niantic Lions Club will provide a BBQ picnic at the end of the ride.

    Registration, which begins an hour prior to start time, is $75 per rider. There is a 500-rider limit. Teams of five or more registering together will receive a $5 per-rider discount. Registration includes the ride on the route of choice, event shirt, water bottle, goodie bag and post-ride BBQ. 

    Participants can register online, in person at the Parks and Recreation Office, through the mail or on race day. For more information on the event, registration, routes and start times, visit www.bikeandbbq.com.

    Parking will be available at the two schools and community center adjacent to the Smith-Harris property.
