New London – The school district will host its first ever Parent University this weekend in an effort to build better partnerships among the schools, families and the community.

The five-hour forum will have various forums ranging in topics from conscious discipline and effective two-way communication to bullying and stress management.

Daisy Torres, the district’s director of bilingual, ESOL, world languages and parent engagement, said the courses offered will help parents not only navigate the school system but provide information on how to be more engaged and empowered.

The topics of the forum were shaped from surveys sent to families in the spring.

New London Parent University will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at C.B. Jennings Dual Language & International Elementary Magnet School. The event is free, and Spanish and Creole translation will be available. For more information or to preregister visit www.newlondon.org.
