State Bond Commission approves funds for Groton projects

The State Bond Commission approved funding for a few Groton projects: $730,000 for a new Nautilus Dock, $54,400 for a Thames Street Dock and $98,998 to reimburse Groton Town Police for body cameras and video storage devices purchased in June, according to a news release from the House Democrats Office.

Funding for both docks comes from the Small Harbor Improvement Projects Program, and the Nautilus Dock will allow a water taxi to bring visitors to the USS Nautilus.

The Nautilus dock also will enable the Submarine Force Library & Museum to be part of the Thames River Heritage Park.

Rep. Christine Conley, D-Groton, praised the funding in a news release, saying, "The USS Nautilus is a major driver of tourism and economic activity for Groton, which in turn brings in revenue for the state. The new dock will have a positive economic impact and enhance public access to one of our state's most treasured historic attractions."

The $98,998 to Groton Town Police is part of a $1.7 million bonding item to reimburse 14 departments across the state for video equipment, according to the news release.

Wednesday's meeting was the Bond Commission's first since May.
