Stonington's coastal resiliency plan subject of Jan. 17 talk

Stonington _ Town Planner Keith Byrnes will discuss the town’s the Coastal Resiliency Plan on Jan. 17 at 10 a.m. at the Stonington Harbor Yacht Club, located at 32 Water St. in the borough. The talk is being sponsored by the yacht club in conjunction with the Stonington Garden Club.

The plan calls for protecting public infrastructure from coastal flooding and sea level rise; minimizing potential for loss of life and destruction to property; minimizing expenditures associated with repeated repairs to public infrastructure after storms and identifying ways to enhance coastal resources.

Brynes will also give an update on plans to repair the Stonington Harbor breakwater and discuss what can be learned from the United Nations Center for Excellence chaired by the Netherlands, a country that has lived below sea level for hundreds of years. The event is free and open to the public.
