New London — Kevin Ruiz of New London High School and Emily Smith of Saint Bernard School are co-recipients of the 34th annual Nick Woviotis Memorial Scholarship Award ceremony. The awards will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 25, at the Italian Dramatic Club, 79 Goshen St.

Ruiz and Smith each will be receiving a $2,500 cash award and will continue to receive $1,000 each year throughout their college career.

In addition, a special $2,000 award is being made to Erin Heap of the Marine Science Magnet High School in Groton.

Others receiving awards at the dinner will be Jose Garcia, Christopher Herson Jr., Thomas Sutera, J. Hunter Roman, Scott Bailey, Jack Madden, Allynna Grills and NiShan Pemberton. 

Scholarships collectively worth $15,000 will be awarded this year; over $250,000 in scholarships have been granted to date and more than 90 percent of the recipients have completed their college education.

Tickets are $25 and can be obtained at the Thames Barber Shop or from Committee Members Murray Renshaw, James Madden, Sam Turello or at the door on the evening of May 25.
