Montville Parks & Rec carnival still on

Montville — The Parks and Recreation Commission announced Thursday that the Montville Carnival would march on this weekend despite a last-minute cancellation from a previous ride vendor.

Instead of canceling the event, commissioners and town officials worked to keep the carnival going, with Northeast Midways agreeing to provide as many rides and games as possible on short notice.

Because it's not the full carnival initially planned, all carnival rides will be free to the public, the commission said.

The carnival, at 836 Old Colchester Road, Oakdale, begins Friday at 5 p.m. The Saturday hours are noon to 10 p.m., with the Music Bureau's Camp of Rock concert at 2 to 4 p.m., Billy Joel cover band River of Dreams playing from 7 to 9 p.m., followed by fireworks.

On Sunday, the carnival's hours are noon to 8 p.m., featuring a cornhole tournament at 1 p.m.
