Groton — The Marine Science Magnet High School Parent Teacher Organization will host its eighth annual Adult Spelling Bee this Friday, April 26, in the school's Great Hall. Check-in begins at 6 p.m. and the first round starts at 7 p.m.

The event, sponsored by Cross Sound Ferry, will be emceed by WTNH’s lead investigative reporter, George Colli, who will be returning for his fifth Bee. He will be supported by Chris Jones, who emceed the previous six spelling bees at MSMHS. The King Bee, MSMHS Principal Nicholas Spera, will be joined by two mystery guests.

There will be four swarms (rounds) in this year’s bee: Family Bees (parents), Company Hive (teachers), MSMHS Worker Bees (students), and Taking Care of BEES-ness (companies & friends). Two teams from each swarm will advance to the championship round, where the champion will be stung with trophies and the ultimate bragging rights.

Proceeds will benefit the MSMHS PTO. The organization supports educational projects, programs and initiatives that foster innovation and excellence in the education of all students at MSMHS through grants to students and teachers.
