    Local roundup: Saints march to the top in the ECC Small

    North Stonington - Remy Bonser scored 21 points as the St. Bernard School boys' basketball team took over first place in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Small Division with a 63-54 win over Wheeler on Thursday night.

    John Vogt had 15 points and Paul Pepas scored 10 for St. Bernard (7-3, 4-1), which moved ahead of Windham (3-1) atop the division. Mike Dellaporta scored 21 points and Jacob Raggon had 13 points for Wheeler (6-5, 2-3).

    In other games:

    • Morgan beat Grasso Tech 75-50. Kevin Philibert had 17 points and Joe Diaz scored 12 for Grasso.

    H.S. girls' basketball

    • Caitlyn Dittman and Kaitlyn Berkel combined for 41 points and 22 rebounds as St. Bernard beat Wheeler 51-32 in an ECC Small Division game. Dittman scored 21 points with 13 rebounds and five assists, Berkel scored 20 with nine rebounds and Kara Bassett had eight points and eight rebounds for the Saints (6-8, 3-2), who led 24-16 at halftime. Mackenzie Brayman scored 13 and Kylie Baker had 12 points for Wheeler (5-8, 2-3).

    • Abby Stone scored 20 points and had seven steals as Old Lyme beat Hyde-New Haven 74-22 in a Shoreline Conference game. Julia Strycharz had 17 points and eight rebounds for Old Lyme (11-3, 11-2).

    H.S. wrestling

    • Three pins helped East Lyme beat Bacon Academy 42-27 in an ECC Large Division match. David Hage (126 pounds), Mason Pagan (138) and Kevin O'Sullivan (182) had pins for the Vikings (6-12, 2-3).

    H.S. swimming

    • Fred France won a pair of events as Norwich Free Academy/Ledyard beat Williams School 93-69. France won the 50-yard freestyle (23.22) and 100 butterfly (1:04.35) and Tim Yuen won the 100 backstroke for NFA (3-2). Jordan Legg and Will Jarrett were double-winners for Williams (4-3) and teammate Emily O'Brien won the 100 breaststroke. Legg won the 200 freestyle (1:58.29) and 500 freestyle (5:24.43) and Jarrett won the 200 individual medley (2:14.54) and 100 freestyle (52.86).

    Men's basketball

    • Parris Hill scored 23 points and had 10 rebounds as Mitchell College beat Becker in a New England Collegiate Conference game, 86-83 in double overtime. Joshua Ford had 14 points and 19 rebounds, Donavan McClean scored 22 and Devonta Mosley had 11 points for Mitchell (6-9, 4-4).

    • WPI, ranked sixth in Division III, went on a 19-0 run in the first half and beat Coast Guard 69-45 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game. Kevin Alvarez scored 16 points for Coast Guard (5-13, 1-6).

    Women's basketball

    • Leigh Steinbeck scored a career-high 18 points to help lead Coast Guard to a 76-69 win over Merchant Marine. Meghan Fornaro also scored 18 with five assists and four steals and Torie Sutherland had 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists for Coast Guard (10-7), which won its third straight.

    • Mitchell College lost to Regis in a NECC game, 59-51. Amanda Garcia scored 19 points with seven rebounds, Jessica Shepherd scored 14 and Dazjavia Williams had 13 rebounds and five steals for Mitchell (5-9, 5-3).
