    Local roundup: Fitch's Williams swims to pair of runnerup finishes at State Open

    New Haven - Fitch High School senior Dakota Williams finished his season in style, recording a pair of second-place finishes at the CIAC State Open swimming and diving championships on Saturday at Yale University.

    Greenwich cruised to the team title with 658 points, and it was a pair of Greenwich swimmers who beat Williams to the wall.

    Edward Moss won the 50-yard freestyle in 20:18 seconds, nearly a second faster than Williams' runnerup time of 21.11, while Thomas Dillinger capture the 100 freestyle in 45.17 with Williams finishing second in 45.66.

    The Falcons, who finished 19th in the team standings with 90 points, also got a solid 15th place finish in the 400 freestyle relay by the team of Williams, Sam Kokomoor, John Moody and Sean Estep. Their time was 3:19.47, just off the school record.

    College swimming

    • Connecticut College's Loring Bowen achieved All-American status for the second straight year with an eighth-place finish in the men's 200-yard backstroke at the NCAA Division III Championships at Shenandoah, Texas. The junior finished in a time of 1:49.66.

    Coast Guard Academy senior Christian Brindamour finished his career by placing 18th in the 100 freestyle. He posted a time of 45.03 in the final race of his career which saw him win three All-America honors, including a seventh place finish in the 50 freestyle on Wednesday. Brindamour won the 50 freestyle championship last season and earned All-America honors in the 100 a year ago with a fifth place finish with a school record time of 44.65. On Friday, he placed 39th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.37.

    Men's lacrosse

    • Former Fitch standout Jordan Cook had four goals and an assist, leading Mitchell College to a 15-12 win over Daniel Webster in a New England Collegiate Conference match. Dan DiGioia scored three times, Joshua Muckle of Quaker Hill and Tyler Kradas had two goals each and Tyler Desances had two assists for Mitchell (2-2, 1-0).

    • Conn College remained winless in the NESCAC, falling to Colby 14-10. Briggs Barton had three goals and an assist, Davis Kraft scored twice, Ross Thompson had a goal and two assists and Bobby Bleistein made 24 saves for Conn (1-6).

    • Coast Guard lost to Norwich University 9-6 in the first NCAA home match for the Bears. Pat Dreiss and Robert McKenna had two goals and an assist each and Justin Huemme also scored twice for Coast Guard (1-4).

    Women's lacrosse

    • No. 5 Colby rallied from a one-goal deficit at halftime, going on to beat Conn College 14-10 in a NESCAC game. Taylor Thomas scored three goals and Erin Moran and Tina Balzotti had two goals each for Conn (2-5, 0-3), which led 6-5 at halftime. Lacey Hale had a goal and an assist for Conn.

    • Mitchell's Ashley Murtha scored three goals, but the Mariners lost to Green Mountain 16-5. Veyda McVey had a goal and an assist and Norwich's Tiana Fillmore also scored for Mitchell (0-2).

    Late lacrosse

    • New England's Pat Saunders scored three goals during a 20-9 loss to the Calgary Roughnecks in a National Lacrosse League game late Friday. Kevin and Kyle Buchanan added two goals apiece for the Black Wolves (3-6), who return home on Sunday, March 29, to face the Minnesota Swarm at 1 p.m.

    Women's water polo

    • Conn College picked up three wins on Friday, beating Macalester (16-6), Penn State-Behrend (16-2) and host Monmouth 19-2. Emma Stephens had four goals and three assists against Monmouth, Kate Jacobson scored four times against Behrend and Isabelle Baneux and Kelsey Millward had three goals and two assists each against Macalester for Conn (4-10).
