    High school roundup: East Lyme softball team beats Ledyard 4-1

    East Lyme – Winning pitcher Mikaela LoPriore hit her fifth home run of the season for the East Lyme High School softball team Saturday, helping lift the Vikings to a 4-1 victory over Ledyard in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division.

    Ledyard (3-4, 0-3) scored a run in the top of the first inning, but East Lyme responded with two runs in the third and two in the fifth for the victory. LoPriore (5-1) had two hits.

    Kali Money and Jessica Kuelling had two hits each for Ledyard and Haley Wilt tripled.

    East Lyme is 5-1, 1-1.

    In other games:

    • Beth Fleming pitched a three-hitter and drove in four runs as Norwich Free Academy beat Bacon Academy 20-1 in the ECC Large Division. Fleming (4-0) struck out 11 with one walk and was 4-for-5 with a triple. Megan Weir had three doubles, scored four runs and drove in five, Shea Gendron had three hits and two RBI, Abigail Laboy had three hits, Emily Arico scored three runs and drove in three runs and Britt Majcher tripled, drove in two and scored three times for NFA (7-0, 3-0).

    • Shoshana Berkman was 2-for-3 with a double, home run and six RBI as St. Bernard topped Killingly 13-9. Lazhel De La Cruz had a hit and two RBI for St. Bernard (5-2) and Margaret Reagan and Sophie Nelson had two hits each.

    • Sarah Pacheco was 4-for-5 with six RBI, including a two-run home run, in Waterford’s 21-7 victory over Lyman Memorial. Claire Hurley and Shea Spellman added three hits each for Waterford (6-2) and Mackenzie Merriman, Ally Pezzolesi, Sara Buscetto and Jodi Weiss had two hits each.

    • Jenn Paride struck out seven and allowed just one hit over four innings pitched in Wheeler’s 9-2 victory over New London. Nikki Collins had a hit and three RBI for Wheeler (5-0) and Miceala Bergel, Kylie Garcia and Lena Curland each had a hit and a run scored. Nikita Terry and J’Lisa Potter each had a hit and a run scored for New London (0-6) and Jocelyn Cooper had an RBI single.

    Baseball

    • Justin Pandolfe pitched a five-hitter as Waterford beat Bacon 8-1. Pandolfe (2-0) struck out five. Kevin Johnson and Will Sherman (two runs) had two hits each and Dan Castelpoggi hit a two-run single for Waterford (6-1).

    • Williams School lost to Providence Country Day in an SENE game, 15-3. Williams pitchers issued 12 walks and PCD had nine hits. Andrew Nickerson had a run-scoring double, Dan Doherty singled home a run and Eddie Kaftan had a sacrifice fly for Williams (2-4, 1-3).

    • North Branford tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and beat Old Lyme 9-8 with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning in the Shoreline Conference. Matt Przybysz and Will Visgilio had two hits each and Brett Hartmann homered for Old Lyme (6-3).

    • Trey Belanger was 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI, leading Killingly to a 13-8 win over Norwich Tech in a nonleague game. Norwich Tech (4-4) led 7-5 before Killingly scored six runs in the top of the sixth. Steve Sieczkowski (two runs, two stolen bases) and Mike Clapsadle (two RBI) had three hits each and Bryce Bedard had two hits and scored twice for Norwich Tech.

    Boys' track and field

    • East Lyme edged Wethersfield 91-85 to win the Medium Division title while tying for second overall behind host Danbury at the 35th O'Grady Relays. The Vikings' Josh Leffingwell, Andrew Peitzsch and Ben Wocjik teamed up to win the pole vault relay and they had seconds in four other relay events — the sprint medley team of Connor Parker, Declan Constable, Josh Lopez and Brandon Dinsmore, the 4x400 relay team of Jared Ayers, Evan Tryon, Gregory Atkinson and Dinsmore, the shot put team of Larenz Simpkins, Kenney Blinn and T.J. Hillyer, and the javelin team of Tim LaDuca, Kevin O'Sullivan and Parker.

    Golf

    • Stonington beat Ledyard 6-1 on Friday. Jack Ognisty of Stonington was the medalist with a 36 and Jack Glenn (43), Peter Hollman (48) and Noah Blanchette (46) also won matches for the Bears (3-0). Kevin Simmons (40) won his match for Ledyard (1-2).
