    Local roundup: Staten Island routs Tigers 10-3

    Norwich — Drew Bridges went 4-for-5, including two doubles, with two RBI and a run as the Staten Island Yankees trounced the Connecticut Tigers 10-3 on Monday night in a New York-Penn League game played before at 1,026 at Dodd Stadium.

    Jhalan Jackson had two hits and three runs for Staten Island (2-2) and Thairo Estrada hit a solo home run and scored twice.

    Jose Zambrano hit a solo home run for the Tigers (1-3) and Ignacio Valdez had an RBI double and scored.

    NECBL

    6 in a game between the top two teams in the Southern Division. Newport (10-2) scored five runs in the sixth inning to overcome a 5-3 deficit. The Gulls banged out 14 hits against four pitchers, including loser Matt Horton (0-1) who came on in relief of starter Mike Concato in the sixth.

    The Schooners (10-4) had a productive night at the plate, finishing with 12 hits. Casey Baker went 3-for-4 while Ben Ruta had two hits and two RBI, his team leading 12th and 13 of the season. Groton's Aaron Hill of UConn had a single and an RBI.

    Zone VI American Legion

    • Trevor Delesdernier had two hits, two RBI and two runs as Niantic won the first game of its doubleheader against Norwich 10-4. Ben Keating had two runs and two RBI and Matt Przybysz allowed one hit and no earned runs over four innings for the win. Austin Toback had two hits and two RBI and Sam Gonski added two RBI as Niantic earned a sweep by winning the second game 7-2. Owen Tretter gave up just one hit and no earned runs over 3.2 innings to earn the win.

    • Jewett City scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie and went on to beat Newl London 6-4. Evan Durham walked with the bases loaded to drive in the go-ahead run and Brody Adams added a two-run single.

    District 10 LL softball (11-12)

    • Molly Quiles singled and doubled in Waterford's 10-0 win over Montville in a Pool A game that lasted four innings. Rachel Nasser earned the win, striking out six and allowing one hit.

    • Pawcatuck pounded out 17 hits in a 20-0 shutout of New London in a Pool A game that went four innings. Tori LoPresto, Sarah Flakus and Shea O'Connor had three hits apiece for Pawcatuck and Elaine Previty and O'Connor pitched. Emilia Skrabacz had the only hit for New London.
