Tri-City makes quick work of Tigers 11-4

Troy, N.Y. — The Tri-City ValleyCats clinched the No. 2 seed for the upcoming New York-Penn League playoffs with an 11-4 victory over the Connecticut Tigers on Saturday night.

The loss also kept the Tigers (34-27) from finishing the season with at least a .500 record. Connecticut and Tri-City play two more times to finish the regular-season, including Sunday's game at 5 p.m.

Johnny Seawald, who finished 2-for-4 a double, home run and three RBI, jump-started the ValleyCats (41-12) when he led off the bottom of the first with his first home run of the year. Tri-City would score two more runs to take a 3-0 lead.

Connecticut tied the game in the second with three runs, the highlighted by Will Allen's game-tying solo homer. Allen finished 3-for-4 with three RBI (he also doubled) while Tanner Donnels was 3-for-4 with a double and triple.

Tri-City came right back with three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-3 and broke the game open with a five-run seventh.
