    Local roundup: East Lyme baseball wins its eighth straight

    Woodstock — Bennett Coe hit a go-ahead RBI double in the top of the eighth inning as the East Lyme baseball team won its eighth straight on Tuesday, 6-2 in eight innings over Woodstock Academy in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division game on Tuesday.

    Matt Malcom added a three-run double later in eighth inning for East Lyme (8-4, 4-1).

    Doug Gerrity had two hits for the Centaurs.

    H.S. boys' golf

    • Wheeler's Jake Umphlett was the medalist with a 4-over-par 40 as the Lions beat St. Bernard 6-1 in an ECC Small Division match. Mike Anderson (41), Kody Lewis and Cody Johnson won matches for Wheeler (2-3, 1-1) and Will Dittman won his match for St. Bernard (1-8, 1-4).

    • Old Lyme beat Morgan in a Shoreline Conference match, 177-185. Old Lyme's Graham Aird and Matt McCarthy shared medalist honors with Morgan's Burton Caldwell with 43s. Cam Roberts shot 44 and Mason Swaney 47 for Old Lyme.

    • Montville beat Plainfield 7-0 in an ECC Medium Division match. Chris Bouchard was the medalist with a 3-over-par 36. Sam Gaboury (42), Brian O'Sullivan (41), Noah Cook (46) and Thomas Schrader (52) also won matches for Montville (4-2, 2-2). 

    • Norwich Tech lost to Windham Tech 208-231 in a Constitution State Conference match. Chris Feder-Craney had the low score for Norwich Tech (1-6, 1-4) with a 55.

    H.S. boys' track

    • Patrick Scheurer won the 110 hurdles (16.9), the 200 (23.6) and the javelin (138-2) for Fitch in its 109.5-40.5 win over Bacon Academy in the ECC Large. Brian Robinson won the discus (144-1) and shot put (42-10.5) for the Falcons (4-1, 2-1) and Scheurer teamed with Cleon McLish, Isiah Sebastian and Adrian Albo to win the 4x100 relay (46.2). Also, Albo won the 100 (11.7).

    • Old Lyme split in a Shoreline Conference tri-meet, beating host Portland 73-55 and losing to East Hampton 104-37. Old Lyme's Dan Cole won the 3200 and teammate Corey Knepshield was second in the 400 and 800.

    H.S. girls' track

    • Madison Powe won three events, leading Fitch to a 90-37 win over Bacon in an ECC Large Division meet. Powe won the 100 (13.3), 200 (27.5) and long jump (16-6). Ariana Stanberry, Habeeba Kamel, Lily Johnson, Colleen Duffy and Briana Robinson also won events for Fitch (3-2, 1-2). Ann Vigil of Bacon won the shot put, discus and triple jump.

    • Old Lyme was swept in a Shoreline Conference tri-meet, losing to East Hampton 84-54 and to host Portland 78-50. Samantha Lee of Old Lyme won the 400 and teammate Kiley Almy was second in the 3200.

    College track

    • Four Connecticut College athletes made the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference teams. Bella Franz (800 meters), Emily Senatore (discus) and Lauren Kennedy (shot put) made the women's team and Ben Bosworth (1500) made the men's team.
