Black Wolves take Albany's Oakes with No. 8 pick in NLL draft

Oakville, Ont. — The New England Black Wolves selected Seth Oakes of Albany with the No. 8 overall pick in Monday night's National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.

Oakes, a 5-foot-11 forward, spent two seasons with the Great Danes after playing for two years at Onondaga Community College, where he helped OCC win the 2013 NJCAA title. He was a two-time America East All-Conference player at Albany where he average 3.18 goals per game as a junior and 2.75 goals per game as a senior.

"I feel really good," Black Wolves head coach Glenn Clark said. "Oakes is the guy that we had targeted so we're really happy he was there with the pick. We think he's a high-level talent that can be a really strong player. We're really happy to have him. We didn't know if he would be there at eight, so when he was it was a no brainer for us."

The Black Wolves traded the 14th overall pick to the Saskatchewan Rush for the 19th overall pick and a second round pick in the 2017 NLL Entry Draft. The used the No. 19 pick to select goalie Doug Jamieson of Onondaga CC and the Junior A League's Six Nations Arrows and Chiefs.

New England's other picks were Joel Coyle (No. 24, Orangeville Northmen), Kyle Trolley (No. 29, Notre Dame), Brandon Robinson (No. 33, Brampton Excelsiors), Myles Jones (No. 37, Duke), Dan Michel (No. 38, Peterborough Lakers), Garrett Lewis (No. 54, Toronto Beaches) and Andrew Mullen (No. 56, Virginia).
