Local roundup: Tigers promote Southworth to assistant GM

Norwich — Brent Southworth has been promoted to Assistant General Manager of the Connecticut Tigers, it was announced on Thursday.

Southworth, a Franklin native and Norwich Free Academy graduate, has served as the director of sales for the New York-Penn League baseball team since 2013.

"We are very pleased to be able to promote from within and Brent is the perfect person to help lead this franchise," Tigers General Manager Dave Schermerhorn, also an NFA graduate, said in a release. "Brent has proven himself to be a leader. His skill set and local ties have been a great asset since he joined our staff. We know that with his help we can take the organization towards an even brighter future."

Southworth is a veteran baseball coach in the area. He began his coaching career as an assistant for the Norwich American Legion baseball team in 1995 and led the program to its first state title in 1999. He also served as assistant baseball coach at Montville High School for many years.

"I'm very excited to begin this new role with the Tigers. Every day I'm amazed at how hard our front office staff works to make Dodd Stadium one of the best professional sports venues in the region," said Southworth. "To have the ability to help lead a Minor League Baseball organization, especially here in my hometown, is something that is better than I ever could have imagined."
