    Roundup: U.S. soccer star Carli Lloyd to appear at Conn College

    New London — The Connecticut College women's soccer team is presenting an Evening with Carli Lloyd on Monday, Dec. 19, at Palmer Auditorium. The event will begin at 6 p.m.

    Lloyd, the 2015 FIFA Player of the Year, two-time Olympic gold medalist and member of the United States national team, will speak about mental toughness and perseverance. There will also be a question and answer segment and book signing as well as a raffle and silent auction of Carli Lloyd signed merchandise.

    Copies of Lloyd's book, "Carli Lloyd: When Nobody was Watching," will be available to purchase.

    Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased by contacting Conn College coach Norm Riker at (860)439-2661 or emailing nriker@conncoll.edu.

    Girls' basketball

    • Norwich Free Academy opened the season with a 60-42 loss to Fairfield Warde at the Masuk Tip-off Tournament in Monroe. The two teams are tied for eighth in the New Haven Register preseason poll. Mackenzie Burke led the Wildcats with 13 points and Haley Conley added 11. NFA trailed 18-6 after one quarter and couldn't recover from its slow start. NFA will play Masuk, a 55-32 loser to Ridgefield, in Thursday's consolation game at 5:15 p.m.

    • Old Lyme opened its season with a 51-18 victory over Creed in the Shoreline Conference. Tessa Kroes scored 14 points to lead the Wildcats while Audrey Gavin added 10 points, eight rebounds and seven steals.

    • Katia Bourganos had 22 points and Catherine Shannon scored 13 points to lead Williams School past Capital Prep Harbor, 47-33, in its home opener.

    H.S. riflery

    • Zach Ivory was Grasso Tech's high scorer with 180 out of 200 points in a 910-821 loss to Suffield Academy in a match held at the Hartford Gun Club. Avery Thomas had a 169 for the Eagles (0-2).
