    H.S. roundup: Waterford hands South Kingstown (R.I.) first baseball loss

    South Kingstown, R.I. — Collin Bakken pitched an eight-hitter and Michael Burrows hit a grand slam as Waterford handed South Kingstown (R.I.) its first loss with a 5-3 win on Saturday.

    Waterford (10-2) trailed 3-1 before Burrows homered in the sixth. South Kingstown (10-1) had taken the lead with a three-run fifth. Bakken struck out three and walked one. Dylan Bosco had a double and two singles and Nick Porazzi singled, doubled and scored twice for Waterford.

    In other games:

    • Sean Murallo had a single and triple to help lift Montville past RHAM 11-2. Rob DelaCruz and Nick Calash each added a single and double while Dan Kobyluck earned the win, giving up one hit in five innings for the Indians (6-3). Montville's Alex Quidgeon had three hits in a 6-5 loss to Lyman Memorial on Friday.

    • Jacob Jones had three hits, including a home run, in Killingly's 13-6 win over New London. Noah Smith finished with two singles and a double for the Whalers (2-7).

    • Ledyard took the lead for good with four runs in the third inning and went on to beat Stonington 9-6. Riley Gagnon and Owen Wheeler had two hits and two RBI apiece for the Colonels (6-4). Ben Potenziano had a double and four RBI while Griffin Crowley and Connor Woodworth had two hits and an RBI for the Bears (5-5).

    • Jace Funaro and Ron Losacano had three hits each and Matt Kane drove in four runs as Old Lyme beat winless Creed/Hillhouse 15-3 in a Shoreline Conference game. Eli St. Germain doubled and drove in three runs and Kane had two hits for Old Lyme (8-3, 8-2) while Jon Balocca was the winning pitcher.

    Softball

    • Abby Flakus belted an RBI triple and Lainnie Connor followed with an RBI double to highlight a five-run fifth inning, leading Stonington over Tourtellotte 13-3. Flakus finished with two triples, a home run and five RBI while Cameron Dreher had three hits and Collete Dreher added two doubles and two RBI for the Bears (7-3).

    • Alexis Michon pitched a one-hitter as Montville beat Lyman Memorial 6-1. Michon (5-6) also tripled. Kaitlin Price was 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases and Abby Diamantini had two hits and scored twice for Montville (5-6).

    • Plainfield scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning and beat St. Bernard 5-4 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III game. St. Bernard trailed 4-0 after one inning. Emily Nelson and Briana Beverly (two runs) were each 2-for-3 with a double, Sarah Brown singled twice and pitcher Sophie Nelson struck out seven for the Saints (6-3, 3-2).

    • Killingly scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and beat Wheeler 12-9 in an ECC Division III game. Sam Muller hit a grand slam, drove in five runs and scored twice and Kendra Perez was 3-for-5 and scored three runs for Wheeler (1-8). 

    • East Lyme lost to Chariho (R.I.) 10-3 in a nonleague game. Isabel Siciliano singled and doubled for East Lyme (4-5), who made seven errors. Angie Venditti and Ariel Cassidy-Ising also had doubles for East Lyme.

    Track and field

    • Local athletes won three individual events while 10 teams won relay events on the final day of the annual Ledyard Relays. Ledyard's Collin Wiltshire captured the boys' triple jump (42 feet, 11 inches), Fitch's Alex Schwindt (13-0) and Caber Aslavan (10-6) finished 1-2 in the boys' pole vault, and East Lyme's Jamie Foster (97-10) and Sasha Salan (94-10) finished 1-2 in the girls' discus.

    Waterford won three relay events — the boys' 4x800 (9:03.8), girls' 4x400 (4:13.5) and boys' triple jump (118-10.5); Fitch won three relays — the 4x100 girls' relay (51.1), 4x1,600 boys' relay (19:41.6) and boys pole vault (33-0); Ledyard won the boys' distance medley (11:31.1) and girls' 4x100 weight relay (1:00.6); East Lyme won the girls' discus relay (269-2) and New London won the boys' 4x100 weight relay (50.9).

    Girls' lacrosse

    • Maggie Berger contributed five goals and three assists and Sydney Cowell added five goals and two assists, powering Old Lyme past Waterford 16-12. Anna Mesham added three goals and an assist for the Wildcats. Jacklyn Lavoie scored six goals and Meghan Foley added two goals for the Lancers (6-2).

    • Alexis Delucia scored six goals and added an assist in Montville's 12-10 win over Woodstock Academy. Karlee Rewers had three goals for the Indians (5-5).

    • Kendal Hartt scored five goals and Mandy Beck added three goals and four assists in Old Saybrook's 16-6 win over previously unbeaten Stonington. Margit Burgess had three goals and Kate Johnson had two for the Bears (7-1). 

    • Fitch lost to Granby 15-7 in a nonleague game. Zoe Pearse had three goals and Danielle McIlquham scored twice for the Falcons (1-6).

    Boys' lacrosse

    • Michael LaForte scored six goals and had three assists as unbeaten Waterford beat Fitch 18-8. L.J. Pezzolesi and Logan Bowdish had three goals each, Bray Griffith had two goals and five assists and Kyle Jacobson scored twice for Waterford (7-0). Bray Wilson had three goals, Noah Reuling had two goals and two assists and Riley Jordan had a goal and two assists for Fitch (2-7). 

    • David Bibeau chipped in four goals and two assists to lead Stonington past Montville 16-3 in an ECC Division II game. Aaron Lahah had three goals and two assists while Ben Huynh had three goals and Marco Tedeschi added two goals for the Bears (6-2, 4-1). Dane Concascia had one goal and two assists for the Indians (3-5, 1-2).

    • Williams School lost to Hyde of Woodstock 14-2. Nicholas Chirillo and Kevin Masson scored and Lucian Kronholm had two assists for the Blues.

    Sailing

    • Williams finished ninth in the 17-team Connecticut States USCGA race on the Thames River. Williams was 10th in the A Division and seventh in the B Division. Colin Madaus, Alex Bowdler, Matthew Littlefield, Sophie Bullinger, Tim Nessel, Sam Dorfman and Caridad Muldro led Williams.  

    Boys' tennis

    • Williams swept a doubleheader from Hyde of Woodstock, winning the first match 6-1 and the second 5-2. Devin Shah, Alexandros Tsipouras and Miles Schuman each went 2-0 in singles and the team of Olivia Foster and Daniel Sapozhnikov won twice at No. 1 doubles for the Blues. Also contributing to doubles wins were Madi Pralea, Ben Fauerbach, Matt King, Alec Potts, Lily Fowler and Lena Rimmer.
