    Local roundup: Steele leads Conn past Coast Guard

    New London — Lauren Steele scored in the 59th minute as host Connecticut College remained unbeaten with a 1-0 win over Coast Guard in a nonleague women's soccer match on Wednesday.

    Bryanna Montalvo made one save for Conn (5-0-1), which outshot Coast Guard 14-4. Rachel Boohar made five saves for Coast Guard.

    In other games: 

    • Emily LePage scored twice as New England College blanked Mitchell, 5-0, for its first win of the season. Michaela Pomeroy, Molly Bieksha and Tailor Chapin all had goals for the Pilgrims (1-6-1). Jordan Lohneiss had 13 saves for the Mariners (1-3), who were outshot 38-2.

    Men's soccer

    • Chris Lockwood scored twice as Conn College remained unbeaten with a 4-0 win over Swarthmore in a nonleague game. Graham Koval had a goal and an assist, Ben Mangoogian had a goal and A.J. Marcucci, Matt Butera and Ben Highton had assists for Conn (4-0-2).

    • Coast Guard’s Alex Hall scored his first goal of the season at 61:52 to tie the game and the Bears and Salve Regina played to a 1-1 overtime tie. Landon Klopfenstein had the assist for Coast Guard (3-2-1) and Jake Sorenson had three saves. Jared Warren scored in the first half for the Seahawks (4-2-1) and Michael Payan had seven saves.

    Black Wolves sign two

    • The New England Black Wolves signed veterans Kevin Crowley and Aaron Bold to one-year contracts, pending league approval. No terms were released. 

    Entering his eighth season in the National Lacrosse League, Crowley had a career-high 45 goals with 40 assists, 85 points and 80 loose balls last year for the Black Wolves. He has appeared in 100 games with 206 goals, 251 assists, 457 points and 414 loose balls. 

    Bold, acquired in an offseason trade with the Saskatchewan Rush, is a 12-year NLL veteran who was 11-4 with 565 saves and a goals-against average of 11.22 last season. A three-time NLL All-Pro selection, he helped lead the Rush to three straight NLL Champions Cups from 2015-17. Bold had a 9.39 goals-against when the Rush won the Cup in 2015, and a 9.50 goals-against in the 2016 Cup as Saskatchewan repeated as league champion. 

    Bold has 3,776 saves in 179 games with a career record of 71-39 during the regular season. In the playoffs, he is 13-7 in 24 games with 658 saves.
