Local roundup: Stonington, Old Lyme qualify for Class S gymnastics meet
A pair of local programs have qualified for the CIAC Class S gymnastics team championships, which will be held on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Law High School in Milford.
Stonington is the No. 2 seed with a 133.540 average and Old Lyme is No. 8 with a 121.680 average. Woodstock Academy, the reigning Class S champion, is the top seed with a 143.710 average.
Law will also host the Class M meet at 9 a.m. and the Class M meet at 1 p.m. Fairfield Ludlowe is the top seed in Class L and Wilton is No. 1 in Class M.
H.S. swimming
• Waterford ends its regular season with a 96-69 win over New London in the Eastern Connecticut Conference. Dan Estrin won the 200-meter individual medley (2:38.85) and 100 butterfly (1:11.22) for the Lancers (5-6, 5-5) while Jason Blain won the diving competition with 181.80 points and senior Hunter McKinsey joined him in qualifying for the state meet with a score of 163.45. Finella Smith (400 freestyle), Joseph Lastrglio (100 backstroke) and Oliver Guijarro-Sines (100 breaststroke) won events for the Whalers (0-8, 0-8).
H.S. girls' basketball
• MacDuffie pulled away in the second half to defeat Williams School 53-37 in the SENE tournament semifinals. Olivia Kaplan scored 15 points for the Blues, including three 3-pointers, while Katie Burzin added 11 points and Anna Mae Saunders 10. Williams finishes 5-12.
• Top-seeded Cromwell pulled away in the second half for a 44-29 win over No. 4
Old Lyme in the Shoreline Conference semifinals on Tuesday night. Old Lyme (15-6) trailed 19-15 at halftime. Emily DeRoehn led Wildcats with 14 points, eight rebounds and six steals. Vanessa Stolstajner, the Shoreline Player of the Year, scored 13 for

Schedule changes
• Five local events, including the ECC Division II boys' basketball tournament first round game between No. 10 Wheeler and No. 7 Putnam, were postponed by inclement weather. That game, to be played at Putnam, will take place on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The change also means that No. 2 Stonington, which was scheduled to host the Putnam-Wheeler winner on Thursday, will now play its quarterfinal on Friday at 6 p.m. The other ECC quarterfinals game on Thursday will be played as scheduled.
Two other boys' basketball games were postponed along with two hockey games. In basketball, Morgan at Old Lyme has been moved to Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Bassick at Fitch will now be played on Friday at 6 p.m. The E.O. Smith at Redhawks hockey game has been rescheduled for Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. while the WMRP at Eastern Connecticut Eagles game will be played at a date and time to be determined.
In addition, the Connecticut Sun announced that the "Evening with Sue Bird and Taurasi" has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 27, at 7 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The event will be moderated by another ex-UConn and WNBA great Rebecca Lobo.
