Festival brings in nearly 7,000 pounds of food for NL pantry

Mystic - During last Friday's Festival of Lights, Mystic Aquarium's 4,000 guests donated 6,925 pounds of food to the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center in New London.

Each year, aquarium admission during the festival - which is held at Olde Mistick Village as well as the aquarium - is free to anyone who donates a non-perishable food item. Along with cash donations, the aquarium said the contributions from this year's festival equal 9,140 meals.

Performing at the event were the Stonington High School Chorus, Ledyard High School Carolers, Chariho High School Carolers, Montville High School Choral and Mystic Middle School Jazz Band.
