Charles W. Morgan program on tap Feb. 26 at Stonington Historical Society

Stonington - The Stonington Historical Society will host a presentation on Feb. 26 by Mystic Seaport President Steve White who will discuss the restoration of the whaling ship Charles W. Morgan and its 38th voyage last summer.

The program begins at 7 p.m. at the La Grua Center in the borough.

The Morgan is the world's last wooden whaling ship. After its 5½-year restoration in the Seaport shipyard was completed last spring, the Morgan traveled to historic New England ports last summer before returning to the museum, where it is back on display.

There will be a question-and-answer period following White's presentation. The program is free and open to the public.

White's presentation is the first of a number of programs slated for this winter and spring. On March 18, at 6 p.m., maritime historian Norman Brouwer will discuss "Steamships out of Stonington." On April 19, at 1 p.m., Dr. Nancy Steenburg will discuss "The History of Venture Smith," followed by a field trip to the freed slave's former Pawcatuck property.
